Pep Guardiola provides Leroy Sane injury update ahead of Man City's clash against West Ham

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola hopes that Leroy Sane's injury is not as bad as first feared ahead of the Premier League opener against West Ham United next weekend.

The German winger went off injured in City's clash with Liverpool in the Community Shield at Wembley this afternoon (Sunday), after landing awkwardly following a challenge by Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Sane received treatment on the pitch for around one minute, before getting up and hobbling off, to be replaced by Gabriel Jesus after just 11 minutes of the game, which ended 1-1 with City winning 5-4 on penalties.

The 23-year-old German international, who has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich, was seen on the touchline in the second half and joined his team-mates for the post-match celebrations, although he had strapping on his knee.

And speaking after the game, Guardiola gave an update on Sane's injury and whether he was considered a doubt for the game with the Hammers at the London Stadium on Saturday.

"The first impression was not that good, but I think it's not bad," Guardiola said.

"So, honestly I do not know. I spoke to the doctor.... I will wait, we will wait to see what happened but I think he will be okay."

The Premier League champions face Manuel Pellegrini's men at the London Stadium on Saturday, with the game kicking off at 12.30pm.
