Pep Guardiola promises Liverpool guard of honour as Man City boss hints at solution to problems

Pep Guardiola has confirmed Liverpool will be given a guard of honour when they travel to Man City next week.

The Reds will arrive at the Etihad as champions after Guardiola's men lost to Chelsea on Thursday night and the Catalan says his side will give Liverpool the reception they deserve.

But the City boss says next season his side will be prepared to try and wrestle the Premier League crown from Liverpool's grasp.

Asked whether the Reds will be given a guard of honour, he said: "Of course we are going to do it.

"We are going to do the guard of honour, of course.

"We always receive Liverpool, when they come to our house, in an incredible way. They cannot complain.

"We are going to do it because they deserve it."

City trail Liverpool by 23 points, losing their crown to the Reds one year on from an extraordinary title race that saw Guardiola's men pip Liverpool to the title with 98 points.

Having lost eight times in the league already this season, the former Barcelona boss admits his side have "suffered" but hinted he has the solution to their problems.

He said: "We congratulate Liverpool for an extraordinary league they won and move forward. I know we can do it.

"We have an incredible challenge to face.

"What we have to do is learn. I think we know the reason why we suffered this season and we're going to try to target next season."
