Pep Guardiola pays Arsenal hero Thierry Henry huge compliment after Sergio Aguero breaks record

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has heaped praise on Sergio Aguero and Thierry Henry after seeing his player surpass the Premier League record set by the Frenchman.

The City striker in Premier League history after netting a hat-trick for Pep Guardiola's men in a 6-1 thrashing of Aston Villa at Villa Park.

Aguero took his tally of goals in the English top flight to 177, eclipsing the 175 Henry scored for Arsenal .

The South American has now moved ahead of Henry’s tally to become the joint fourth highest goalscorer in Premier League history, moving level with Chelsea legend Frank Lampard and to within ten goals of former Newcastle United and Manchester United striker Andy Cole.

And Guardiola was full of praise for Aguero as he paid a big compliment to Henry following the Argentine's efforts at Villa Park.

“He was a legend and the legend rose today," Guardiola said, speaking to Sky Sports.

“I think he [Aguero] is one of the most incredible players I’ve seen in this league. I don’t know, I guess he will be proud.

“He breaks his record – he [Henry] was a legend and Sergio is the same, and we congratulate him in the locker room. To score this amount of goals means you have done for many years a lot of good things.

“When you score this amount of goals, you have to be consistent for a number of years, so it is an incredible compliment for him.”
