Pep Guardiola offers Man City team news as Mikel Arteta admission made

Here are your Manchester City evening headlines on Thursday, January 26.

Guardiola offers City team news

Phil Foden is improving but a decision has not been made over whether he will be available for Manchester City's FA Cup tie with Arsenal.

Foden sat on the bench for City's win over Tottenham and was left out completely against Wolves on Sunday after picking up a foot injury against Manchester United earlier this month. Pep Guardiola said at the weekend that Foden's injury flared up again before the Wolves game and offered no guarantees that the winger would be available for the cup clash with Arsenal.

Speaking before that tie, Guardiola confirmed that Foden is getting better, but said a decision on his involvement vs Arsenal would only be made after Friday's training session.

Guardiola makes Arteta admission

Pep Guardiola has revealed Mikel Arteta never used to celebrate Manchester City goals against Arsenal and that he knew there was a chance he would eventually manage the Gunners.

Arteta has steered Arsenal to the top of the Premier League this season but returns to the Etihad for an FA Cup fourth round tie on Friday night, the first of three meetings between the two clubs in as many months.

Guardiola is full of praise for his former assistant coach, who spent three years working under the Catalan at City between 2016 and 2019 before taking the job at the Emirates.
