Pep Guardiola makes strong VAR declaration - and says what everyone is thinking

Pep Guardiola has been talking about VAR following his side's sensational Champions League tie against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday- but says, in his opinion, it is 'f***** boring' to discuss.

City's quadruple hopes ended in dramatic fashion at the Etihad Stadium after a 4-3 win against Spurs was not enough to take them through, going out on away goals after Tottenham's 1-0 first leg win.

City thought they had won it in the dying moments when Raheem Sterling found the net.

But after raucous celebrations the goal was eventually ruled out, with VAR showing that Sergio Aguero had been marginally offside in the build up.

And they also failed to get the rub of the green earlier in the game when VAR didn't rule out Fernando Llorente's goal for Spurs, despite the ball appearing to brush the Spaniard's arm.

Speaking in his news conference on Friday, however, Guardiola seemed to not be keen on discussing VAR.

"We play for a lot, put a lot of effort in those situations, but we accept it," he said.

"Sometimes the referee's wrong decision goes in our favour, in this case it was against us. Accept it, it’s football, it’s life."

"VAR is f****** boring to talk about. Sometimes it helps you, sometimes not. UEFA created it to help the referees. What can I do?

City face Tottenham for the third time in 12 days when they play in the Premier League on Saturday lunchtime, and Guardiola seems determined to ensure his side don't lose focus ahead of a game which is crucial for their Premier League title hopes.

"Especially for the game tomorrow, if we think about what could happen differently, I don’t know. For one inch we are out, for one handball we are out. Or maybe not, maybe after 10 minutes Tottenham attack and score three goals in five minutes.

"Maybe [that] happens, or maybe not, I don't know. I think to focus on this one action is ridiculous, because the game was so nice, the football was so nice, so open."

City will move a point ahead of Liverpool with a win, with the Reds not playing until Sunday, when they travel to Cardiff City.
