Pep Guardiola makes Liverpool declaration as Man City mind games escalate

Pep Guardiola has claimed Manchester City are paying no attention to "exceptional" Liverpool as the Premier League title mind games continue.

City have fallen 14 points adrift of the leaders having played a game more going into this weekend's fixtures.

Guardiola has previously declared it would be difficult for his team to catch the European and world champions, who have made the best start to a season of any team in the history of Europe's five leading leagues.

And now the City boss has insisted he isn't even bothering paying attention to the Reds.

“They've won 20 of 21 games and they’d be leading all the leagues around the world," said Guardiola.

"So being so far away means it's not interesting to look at what Liverpool do.

Blood Red: Pep Guardiola - Man City need to pray to catch Liverpool

“It’s better to focus on what we can do for the rest of the season in the Premier League and other competitions.

“We are there fighting, far away but the opponent is exceptional. Now we are in this position we need to quality as quickly as possible the top four.

“That’s the important target. The main target is to play good and prepare for the knockout games.”

City entertain Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon hoping to close the gap to 11 points before Liverpool entertain their neighbours United on Sunday.
