Pep Guardiola looking ahead to 'exciting' Man City challenge next season

Pep Guardiola spoke about the fire and excitement that he has about leading Manchester City into next season.

With two Premier League games to go and second place already assured, the Blues are working towards their Champions League second leg against Real Madrid that will determine whether or not they go through to the quarter-finals with a chance of more silverware this season.

Beyond that, Guardiola is already looking forward to the novel challenge of being in charge of a club for a fifth year. Despite frequent speculation that he would leave the club before then, the Catalan is expected to make City his longest job in football - beating Barcelona by a year - and he is already eyeing up what lies ahead.

"As a manager for a long time, you have an advantage but at the same time after you win a lot you have difficulties to handle the situations," he said .

"But I’m so excited on this two weeks we have ahead, the Madrid game and excited for next season, the moment I lose this fire and excitement inside me to go after victories will be a problem.

"It’s a challenge for me, I’ve never done five years at one club and also the challenge to see if we can maintain the levels that we have in the previous seasons.

"In one world where everyone sacks everyone, it’s so difficult to keep a job for along time, just take a look, England used to be an exception but not any more. It depends on the results and I’m so proud of the staff and backroom and players for helping me to be here for a fifth season.

"The manager depends on results and it’s a challenge on how we are going to maintain this level.”
