Pep Guardiola joins Mikel Arteta and Jurgen Klopp as latest Premier League manager to isolate

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has become the latest Premier League manager to test positive for Covid-19.

Twenty-one members of the City first-team bubble are isolating, with Guardiola and assistant Juanma Lillo among 14 members of backroom staff to test positive.

Seven first-team players have also tested positive, but their FA Cup game with Swindon Town on Friday night is still set to go ahead as things stand.

A statement on Manchester City's website read: "Pep Guardiola will miss tomorrow evening’s FA Cup trip to Swindon Town after testing positive for Covid-19.

"The City manager recorded a positive test on Tuesday along with assistant Juanma Lillo. Both are now isolating, along with a number of other positive cases within the City first team bubble.

"This brings the number of those isolating for Covid related reasons amongst the group to 21. Of that number, 14 are backroom staff and seven are first-team players.

"Assistant coach Rodolfo Borrell will take charge of the team for the trip to Swindon."

Guardiola is the latest Premier League manager to test positive for the virus amid growing concerns of an outbreak across the division.

Although he has since returned from isolation, Mikel Arteta was absent from Arsenal's 2-1 defeat to City last weekend, whilst Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp missed his side's trip to Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Arsenal were due to host Liverpool in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg this evening [Thursday] but a Covid outbreak in the Merseyside outfit's squad led to the the game being postponed until January 20.

Whilst Guardiola will be absent for City's trip to Swindon, the Spaniard should be out of isolation for a huge game with Chelsea in the Premier League next Saturday.
