Pep Guardiola issues Sergio Aguero injury update as Man City return nears

Sergio Aguero has trained with Manchester City – but Pep Guardiola still does not know when his star striker will return to action.

Aguero's long-awaited comeback, after being sidelined with a knee injury, was thwarted after he contracted Covid-19.

Although City's all-time record goalscorer joined his team-mates for part of their session yesterday, Guardiola said he cannot put a date on when Aguero will be ready to play.

“Yesterday he trained with the group for 10 to 15 minutes and later he did some part alone,” said Guardiola. “Day by day he is feeling better.

But when pushed on when Aguero - whose last appearance was on January 3 - will return to action, Guardiola said: “Not yet.”

City travel to Swansea on Wednesday in the fifth round of the FA Cup, where they came back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 in 2019.

The Swans are currently third in the Championship, with Guardiola expecting another tough test for City, who had to come from behind to win at League Two Cheltenham in the last round.

“Swansea have a tradition of good managers,” said Guardiola. “Michael Laudrup was there, Roberto Martinez, Graham Potter and now Steve Cooper.

“It was a difficult game [in 2019]. I don’t expect a different game than when we suffered a lot to go through.

“I know Swansea’s consistency defensively. They are solid, don’t concede chances or goals. They have the quality to play upfront.

“It will be a really difficult test and we will have to do a good performance. I don’t expect any different tomorrow.”
