Pep Guardiola insists he will 'consider' Ederson on penalties after latest Man City miss

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola admits he will "consider" letting Ederson take penalties after their latest miss.

Scoring from 12 yards has been a problem for City over the past 18 months with Ilkay Gundogan the latest man to fluff his lines.

The German blazed over at Anfield on Sunday, although his skied penalty didn't ultimately cost his side.

Gundogan became the third man to miss a City penalty this term after Kevin De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling.

It now means that Guardiola's side have missed eight penalties since the start of last season.

Previously the Catalan has joked that their Brazilian goalkeeper would be called upon to convert spot kicks.

Now though the possibility appears to be edging closer.

Guardiola said after the 4-1 win at Liverpool : "When I commented on this six months ago, it was a joke. Now it's a half-joke.

"I will consider (whether) this will not be a joke and he will be a taker. We don't have a real specialist in this area."

The possibility first arose when Sterling missed from the spot in a win over Sheffield United.

City won the game 1-0, but the penalty was missed when the game was still goalless.

After the game at Bramall Lane Guardiola said: "Ederson is the best. "Believe me, he's the best taker we have in penalties.

"Eddy has no blood in his veins, he's so calm so he could do it."

The Brazilian has come in for huge praise for his footballing ability since arriving in England in 2017.

His composure and confidence on the ball makes him a standout goalkeeper with his feet.

Sergio Aguero, who is currently out injured, is the only City man to have a 100 per cent record this season.
