Pep Guardiola identifies four areas to strengthen ahead of £200m spending spree

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola reportedly wants to bolster his ranks with at least four new arrivals this summer - a spending spree that could exceed £200million.

The Spanish boss guided his team to a second successive Premier League title on Sunday, a comeback 4-1 win at Brighton securing the triumph ahead of fierce rivals Liverpool .

And Guardiola, whose treble-chasing City team face Watford in the FA Cup final this weekend, is already looking ahead to next season.

According to the Daily Mail , the former Barcelona manager wants to add a defender, two midfielders and a striker to his ranks.

With captain Vincent Kompany yet to agree a contract extension at the Etihad, while Nicolas Otamendi and Eliaquim Mangala could leave, Guardiola has turned his attention to reinforcements in central defence.

Leicester ’s Harry Maguire is among the targets, though he is also wanted by Manchester United , while Ajax’s teenaged captain Matthijs de Ligt is another option.

However, De Ligt is rumoured to be closing in on a move to Barcelona, so City may well have to turn their attention to alternative targets.

Guardiola had been eyeing Maguire’s Foxes team-mate Ben Chilwell, but it is believed he’s called that chase off so he can focus on his pursuit of a new centre back.

Another ageing City player is Fernandinho, and the manager sees Atletico Madrid central midfielder as a long-term replacement for the Brazilian.

They’ve long been touted with a move for the Spain international, who has a release clause of £60m, and are understood to be prioritising that move.

Another midfielder the Premier League champions are eyeing is Lyon’s creative midfielder Houssem Aouar, and they may step up that chase should Ilkay Gundogan depart.

In terms of strikers, Frankfurt striker Luka Jovic, who scored in his side’s Europa League defeat at Chelsea last week, is among the targets.

City are also keep tabs on Joao Felix’s situation at Benfica, although the Portuguese teenager is also wanted by a host of other European clubs including Juventus .
