Pep Guardiola heaps praise on nine Man Utd players from "outstanding" team

Pep Guardiola has hailed nine players from Manchester United's 2009 team that lost to his Barcelona side in the Champions League final.

Guardiola constructed one of the greatest teams football has ever seen ten years ago at Barcelona, and won a first European cup in Rome.

The Catalan giants beat Manchester United 2-0 at Stadio Olimpico, with Samuel Eto'o and Lionel Messi getting on the scoresheet.

Barcelona won the competition two years later, again against Manchester United.

The team, arguably better than the one from 2009, running out 3-1 winners over the Red Devils at Wembley Stadium.

Reminiscing on his career in management and looking back on Barcelona's 2009 Champions League win over United, Guardiola hailed the players the Red Devils had.

He told BT Sport's What I Wore: "That was outrageous, it was outstanding.

"So you know Cristiano Ronaldo, [Carlos Tevez, [Dimitar] Berbatov, [Paul] Scholes, [Michael] Carrick, [Ryan] Giggs, [Rio] Ferdinand, [Nemanja] Vidic, [Edwin] Van der Sar. It was an incredible team.

"We had a lot of problems their with the back four. We had three injuries in the starting XI. But we [Barcelona] were full of confidence, we'd won the league and the cup and we did it."
