Pep Guardiola has ‘no doubts’ Mikel Arteta will turn things around at Arsenal

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is convinced Mikel Arteta will turn things around at Arsenal.

The Gunners were hammered 5-0 by City on Saturday and they have now lost their opening three Premier League games.

They have also failed to score a goal in that time and the pressure is ramping up on Arteta.

But Guardiola, who worked with Arteta at Manchester City, has backed his former assistant to turn things around.

“I don’t have any doubts. He is so strong, he will recover, he will analyse and I am pretty sure he will be back on track,” he said.

“We know in our jobs, especially in the big clubs like Arsenal or Manchester City, always when you don’t win there are rumours.

“I am not talking about a friend, I am talking about a professional and when I was working alongside him I learned.

“He helped us a lot. He helped me a lot to achieve what we did together and I learned a lot.

“I feel that he taught me many things that we can use right now.

“What we are now as Man City as a team, it’s thanks to him for the job he has done.

“But we cannot forget he is playing with five or six players injured - Thomas Partey, Ben White and many of them.

“When that happens it is more and more difficult to settle.

“The start is difficult when you face Chelsea, the best team in Europe because they were champions, and then [you face] the last champions of the Premier League. It is not easy.”
