Pep Guardiola handed striker boost as former Man City favourite given Florentino Perez snub

Welcome to the City Is Ours daily round-up, where we take a look at some of the best Manchester City stories from the past 24 hours.

Pep Guardiola's side could score 10 goals every single game until the end of the season and we'd still be sitting here listening to how they're going to solve their 'striker problems'.

City have been linked with a number of Europe's top frontmen in recent months and their quest seems to have been given a boost.

With so many mega-money arrivals, it's sometimes easy to forget about some of the great work done in the City youth set-up, and two of the club's academy graduates have been given some very contrasting pieces of news...

Arsenal's Vlahovic pursuit hits the buffers

Dusan Vlahovic was linked with a move to the Etihad Stadium towards the end of the summer window after his astonishing haul of 21 goals in 37 Serie A games for Fiorentina last term.

He's continued his fine goalscoring form this season, having already notched double figures in all competitions, though Arsenal appeared to have emerged as frontrunners in the race to sign him. Well, not anymore.

Fabrizio Romano reports that there are no ongoing talks between the Gunners board and Vlahovic's representatives, and it was even reported recently that the Serbian's agent was ignoring calls from the London club.

I'd have been a little wary of City making an approach for Vlahovic purely on the basis of one good season, but his fine form at the start of the current campaign has scuppered such a theory.

Fiorentina are still demanding between €70/80million (£60/68.5m) for the 21-year-old striker, but with less than two years remaining on his deal, they're not really in a position to command such a lofty fee.

If City can drive the price down a little he seems like a superb signing.

Tommy Doyle set for extended loan?

While Guardiola shocked a lot of people - you know, the mob who were desperate for Phil Foden to play in the Championship once upon a time - by deciding not to send the likes of Cole Palmer, James McAtee and Liam Delap out on loan this summer, one man who was shipped out on a temporary move was Tommy Doyle.

The 20-year-old penned a one-year loan deal with 2. Bundesliga outfit Hamburg and already has a goal and an assist to his name despite playing a combined total of just 71 minutes across five league games.

Doyle is evidently impressing out in Germany and Abendblatt HSV report that Hamburg are already keen to secure the youngster's services next season as well.

I'm all for youngsters being given the chance to play first-team football on a regular basis, and despite being yet to make a start for Hamburg it's clear Doyle is being slowly integrated into the side and could become a key player for them this season.

However, any decision on where Doyle will be playing his football in 2022/23 should be left until much later in the campaign.

Guardiola has clearly been keen to afford youngsters a chance to impress this season and has even packed some of his Champions League benches with young talent.

If Doyle continues to impress there's a chance he could be given minutes in the City senior set-up next season, especially if veteran captain Fernandinho leaves at the end of his contract. That would be better for his development than another year in the German second tier (if Hamburg fail to get promoted, of course!).

Real Madrid not interested in Brahim Diaz return

Brahim Diaz was once tipped for big things at City before being sold to Real Madrid for a fee in the region of £15m.

The Spain international has yet to really be handed his chance with Los Blancos and, after spending last season with AC Milan, he's recently penned a new two-year loan deal with the Italian side.

His early-season form with the Rossoneri has been very impressive, notching three goals and an assist in eight Serie A outings, yet Marca report Real Madrid are not interested in recalling the youngster.

Diaz's loan move contains an option to buy and it seems his career in the Spanish capital is over before it really began.

It's a shame to see a player like Diaz drifting between clubs because he's clearly got bags of talent.

After a decent if not spectacular first year with AC Milan, he looks to be really finding his feet this season and could be about to announce himself on the European stage.

It's easy to forget that Diaz is still just 22 and he may well go on to be a player City regret letting go.
