Pep Guardiola hails the Man City tributes to Bernard Halford during win vs Fulham

Pep Guardiola believes life president Bernard Halford was the epitome of the "spirit" of Manchester City after fans paid tribute to him during the win over Fulham.

Halford died at the age of 77 this week after a short battle with cancer and during the win at Craven Cottage City fans sang his name and waved red and black scarves, given out for free by the club, in his honour.

The former club secretary spent 47 years working at City and Guardiola was delighted to see the tributes during City's 2-0 win in London.

The Blues boss left the pitch wearing one of the scarves and afterwards he paid his own tribute to the man known as 'Mr Manchester City'.

"It was so nice. I was one-year-old when he started to work in this club, the players and the managers come and go but the spirit of the club and what the club means is people like him," Guardiola said.

The tributes will continue on Wednesday when City play their first home game since Halford's death, against Cardiff in the Premier League.

"I will be looking forward to Wednesday at home to Cardiff to see what Bernard means to this club," added Guardiola.

"We will make a real tribute for his family and his personality for this club. We try and make a good performance and win the game, and afterwards give what he deserves."
