Pep Guardiola gives verdict on Man City winning Premier League title if Liverpool FC beat Manchester United

Pep Guardiola says he will have a look at Liverpool's trip to Manchester United, knowing victory for last season's Premier League champions will seal the 2020/21 title for Manchester City.

City beat Crystal Palace on Saturday to move 13 points clear of United, who have 15 left to play for. If they lose to Liverpool on Sunday, the title will be City's.

Knowing that prospect, Guardiola said he would be following events at Old Trafford but said he was more pleased that the title remains in City's own hands.

He said: "I will take a look, I am so busy. I will take a look at the game, what happens happens. The most important thing is we don't need it to be champions, it's in our hands We have four games to need two points to be champions."

When asked if he would prefer for City to secure the title-clinching points themselves next week against Chelsea, Guardiola simply said: "As soon as possible."

In his TV interviews, Guardiola said of City's title chances that they could put the champagne in the fridge, even if they aren't yet ready to pop open the cork.

With proceedings at Palace close until Sergio Aguero's brilliant opener just before the hour mark, Guardiola said he was delighted with his side's second-half performance.

"So so pleased," he said. "The first half we struggle to tackle a bit more in better ways. Today for the quality of the players we had we needed more movements, more touches, and they did it perfectly second half. Incredibly aggressive.

"It's a huge victory. Now we have just one step. Hopefully next week against Chelsea we can do it."
