Pep Guardiola gives Man City injury update on Kevin De Bruyne and John Stones

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola says that two key players are expected to return after the international break.

Kevin De Bruyne will miss Sunday’s league clash with Wolves with a groin problem he picked up at Everton last week.

City boss Guardiola said on Tuesday night that there was a chance De Bruyne could be ready to face Wolves, but that has now been ruled out.

The player has also been left out of the Belgium squad for Euro 2020 qualifiers against San Marino and Kazakhstan next week.

But Guardiola said he has not changed his approach to De Bruyne, who missed a large chunk of last season through injury which some believe was down to too much football.

“Sometimes he doesn’t play,” he said. “There was one game at Norwich.

“Sometimes he is a substitute but when he feels good he is good. After the international break he will be ready. It’s not a big, big problem.”

John Stones is also due to return in the clash with Crystal Palace on October 19 as he recovers from a thigh problem he aggravated in the 3-2 defeat at Norwich.

Guardiola said England defender Stones will “hopefully” return and that is a big boost after the Blues have been getting by with just one centre back, following long-term injury to Aymeric Laporte.
