Pep Guardiola gives Man City an Arsenal reality check in Premier League title race

Pep Guardiola believes that Manchester City have to be 'almost perfect' to catch Arsenal in the Premier League.

The league leaders dropped points on Tuesday night against high-flying Newcastle when they were held to a 0-0 draw at the Emirates. They remain eight points ahead of the current champions, who can close the gap to five if they win their game in hand at Chelsea on Thursday.

While eyes are on Arsenal to see if they can continue in a title race given they have not been used to being in one in recent years, City also need to produce the performances to be able to close the gap. Guardiola will not get complacent about the battle given what he has seen from the Gunners in the first period of the season.

Recent setbacks at home against Brentford and Everton have shown problems in Guardiola's side that they will have to overcome. The manager believes that they will have to win nearly all of their remaining games if they are to win a fifth title in six years

"The way you have to reduce the gap is play good and win games," he said. "It's not for the fact. They have an average that they will do more than 100 points the way they have done so far.

"If they continue in that way, we will not catch them. We have to be almost perfect from here and hope they drop their performance - yesterday they were excellent against Newcastle - and see what happens."
