Pep Guardiola gives Kevin De Bruyne injury update ahead of Manchester United vs Man City

Manchester City midfield ace Kevin De Bruyne will return to training tomorrow, to give himself a great chance of playing in Sunday's Manchester derby.

De Bruyne was missing from the matchday squad in the 1-0 FA Cup fifth round win at Sheffield Wednesday in midweek.

Guardiola afterwards revealed that the Belgium playmaker had injured his back in an awkward fall near the end of the Carabao Cup final victory over Aston Villa three days earlier.

He declared that De Bruyne was a doubt for the derby, in which City had seeking to notch up a fourth successive league away win at Old Trafford - and also a fourth successive in all competitions.

Guardiola said the player is improving: “He’s getting better, tomorrow he’s going to train, he’s not perfect but he feels better," he said. “This morning with the physio he said he feels better. Not perfect.”

The Blues will be without Aymeric Laporte, who limped out of the win at Leicester with a hamstring problem, but Ederson is expected to return to the team after making way for Claudio Bravo in the last two games, both domestic cup games.
