Pep Guardiola gives injury update on Man City pair Gabriel Jesus and John Stones ahead of Brighton

Pep Guardiola said that Gabriel Jesus and John Stones are "much better" as he prepares for Manchester City 's game with Brighton.

Stones has missed the last two games with a thigh injury and was not selected for England's upcoming internationals with Bulgaria and Kosovo as he recovers. Jesus meanwhile was ruled out of last week's trip to Bournemouth after suffering a hamstring injury in training.

Both remain doubts for Saturday but the manager indicated that both players are progressing well and did not rule out a return as he downplayed the seriousness of the injury.

"They are much better. I don't know if they will be able to play tomorrow but they are much better," he said.

"If they are not ready for tomorrow, they will be ready for the Norwich game after the break."

The City manager is also patient over integrating Joao Cancelo into the first team. Cancelo came on for the final minutes at Bournemouth but has been kept out of the starting XI by Kyle Walker since his move from Juventus.

Guardiola is happy that the Portugal international will have a full role to play when the schedule intensifies after the international break.

"When we come back after the international break we have Norwich and then travel to Ukraine and then three days later we have a game here and then the cup - that’s the start of the real season.

"Joao, we are delighted with what we have seen and he wasn’t in the pre-season. Kyle knows things very well from pre-season and Joao starts to understand.

"Maybe tomorrow, maybe after the international break. He needs to be ready and when he is he will play."
