Pep Guardiola gives injury update on four Man City players

Pep Guardiola is sweating over the fitness of Benjamin Mendy and John Stones for Manchester City's trip to Sheffield United tomorrow night.

But there is good news for the Blues boss on Aymeric Laporte , who is edging closer to a return to action having been out since August with a serious knee injury.

Stones suffered a leg injury late on in the 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace at the Etihad, while Mendy is suffering from fatigue having started three successive games for the first time since October.

"John had a problem in the leg with his last action, Mendy has a bit of muscular fatigue from the last game," Guardiola said of the fitness issues in his squad.

Guardiola will check on Stones' availability for the trip to South Yorkshire with the medical team on Monday afternoon, while he will also keep an eye on Laporte's fitness in training as he plans his return to the side.

"He's getting better every day, I don't know [when he'll be ready], I have an idea but I need to this afternoon."

Guardiola confirmed Leroy Sane is still not yet back in full training as he continues to recover from an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
