Pep Guardiola gives injury update on Aguero, Sterling and Fernandinho for Man City vs Spurs

Manchester City will be without three players for the Premier League trip to Tottenham, although Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling could feature.

Pep Guardiola provided an update on his squad ahead of the journey down to London to face Spurs, where he confirmed Fernandinho will miss City's Premier League fixture against Jose Mourinho's men.

However, there was more positive news on Aguero and Sterling, with Aguero having been out since the West Ham draw and Sterling picking up a knock on international duty.

Fernandinho had tweeted this week that he was 'ready again', but Guardiola has since confirmed the Brazilian has come down with a stomach problem.

"Fernandinho is not fit, he has something in his stomach," the manager said.

"Sergio training this week and Raheem today was the first training with the team."

As well as Fernandinho, Guardiola confirmed Nathan Ake would not be available for the trip to Tottenham after he withdrew from international duty with the Netherlands with a hamstring problem.

Answering a question of whether City and Spurs are both in better conditions than their last meeting, Guardiola used the opportunity to give an overall assessment of his squad.

"We are getting better, I don’t speak about Tottenham as they are not my concern," he said.

"We recovered players, at the beginning we struggled with lack of conditions but now we except for Fernandinho and Nathan and one other, the rest are coming back. We’ve a lot of games until March and it will be important to have everyone fit."

The third unnamed player who is out could be Benjamin Mendy, who was suffering with injury before the international break, and Guardiola had said he would not be back before it. Aleks Zinchenko is another player who is a doubt after his Ukraine squad were put into isolation following three positive Covid tests in their squad that forced their final fixture of the international break to be cancelled.
