Fernandinho has a fighting chance of making the Manchester City squad for tomorrow’s FA Cup final.
The Brazil midfielder has been missing since he injured his knee making a block on the edge of the area in the Manchester derby on April 24.
But he has trained for the last two days, even though it was with strapping to the injured joint.
Fernandinho has been a linchpin of the Blues’ success this season but they have managed to wrap up the title without him, as Ilkay Gundogan has done an excellent job in his place.
Kevin De Bruyne is also in contention after another week’s training – he made his comeback as a substitute at Brighton on Sunday and could start at Wembley.
The best Fernandinho can hope for is a place on the bench.
But Benjamin Mendy, who was not involved at the Amex Stadium last week, is also ruled out for the showpiece final.
He has struggled for fitness ever since returning from a long-term knee injury at the start of April and has now been written off until next season.
City have already made it plain that they will not be selling him in the summer, despite the France international risking Pep Guardiola’s wrath by turning up late for physio and then being filmed at three o’clock in the morning in a nightclub.
Guardiola, when asked about his £52million left back, said: “He’ll be fit next season, he’s injured, not available for the final.
“Fernandinho trained yesterday and today, yes.”
