Pep Guardiola explains what Man City will have to do to beat Liverpool FC to Premier League title

Pep Guardiola has explained what his Manchester City side will have to do in order to beat Liverpool to the Premier League title.

The two sides are neck and neck in the race for league glory, with Liverpool currently leading the way by just two points, although City have a game in hand.

Liverpool retook the lead with a dramatic victory against Southampton on Friday night.

The Saints took the lead early on through Shane Long and even though Naby Keita equalised before half-time Southampton player really well and frustrated the Reds.

It seemed as though Liverpool were set to slip up and hand City a massive advantage but Mohamed Salah produced a piece of magic with 10 minutes to go to put them in front.

Jordan Henderson would then add another and Liverpool secured a great result in a tough game.

When asked if Liverpool's recent habit of scoring late winners would have any psychological effect on his players, Guardiola said:

"Zero. I think maybe for them it is better; but for us, zero.

"I know Liverpool is going to win all the games. What happened is what happened. So to be champions we have to win all the games."

Man City's Raheem Sterling hailed as a 'trailblazer' after winning sportsman of the year award

In contrast to Liverpool leaving it late, City have been getting their business done early in recent games.

They secured their place in the FA Cup final with a 1-0 win over Brighton through Gabriel Jesus 4th minute winner but Guardiola doesn't see the early goals as a way for his players to conserve energy.

"Today we didn’t conserve energy," the Blues boss said.

"When you are three or four zero, you can conserve energy a little bit. But the game was absolutely open until the referee decided; game over."
