Pep Guardiola explains Jurgen Klopp exchange after Man City vs Liverpool

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has revealed the conversation he had with Liverpool counterpart Jurgen Klopp following the 1-1 draw at the Etihad Stadium.

Mohamed Salah opened the scoring with a penalty before Gabriel Jesus equalised for the hosts, with Kevin de Bruyne missing a first-half penalty.

That meant the points were shared between the two Premier League title-chasers, which prevented Liverpool from returning to the top of the pile.

Following the match, Guardiola and Klopp were pictured sharing words on the touchline and the Catalan boss shared the topic of their discussions after the match.

While it may have been expected that the discussions would have orientated about the match, they instead spoke about the Premier League reverting back to allowing three substitutes a match instead of five.

"We didn't speak about the result, we spoke about having to fight again and again without five substitutions," he told Sky Sports.

"Look, international England player, Trent Alexander-Arnold, is injured. So, all around the world there are five substitutions but here we believe we are more special people.

"One league and just three players, we don't protect the players and that is why it is a disaster. Especially the year before and whatever.

"I will demand, if they will allow my boys, we have to come back with five substitutions. The players, the managers and everyone, we need to do it. Otherwise, it is difficult to sustain it."
