Pep Guardiola explains John Stones and Claudio Bravo absences from Man City squad

Pep Guardiola will look forward to welcoming both John Stones and Claudio Bravo back to Manchester City squads this season.

Both men were left out of the 20-man matchday selection for the first Premier League game back on Wednesday night, amid doubts over their futures at the club.

Stones has fallen out of favour as he has been unable to maintain fitness or form for a sustained period, while Bravo is out of contract at the end of this month.

Guardiola explained ahead of the Burnley game that injury has temporarily sidelined both players hence their omission from the Arsenal game, but that both are well on the way to being fully recovered.

The City manager also confirmed that Bravo will sign a short-term deal to enable him to complete the season with the Blues despite having the option of becoming a free agent on June 30.

"I forgot to tell you, after the second or third training session, he had a problem in his ankle and he is at the end of the part of his recovery. He was not available," the manager said on Stones.

And he added on Bravo: He’s going to stay until the end of the season like David [Silva]. He had a hamstring problem. He arrived incredibly well, he stayed all the lockdown here with his kids, they are so happy in England.

Unfortunately, one week or 10 days before the start of the season, he had a pain but yesterday he started to run, so I think in a few days he’ll start training again.
