Pep Guardiola explains heated Sergio Aguero Man City touchline confrontation

Pep Guardiola explained he had a touchline argument with Sergio Aguero in the second half of the game against Tottenham because the player thought he was being blamed for Spurs' second goal.

Guardiola could be seen yelling at the Argentine as Tottenham went to take the corner which led to Lucas Moura's equaliser and when the City striker was brought off moments later he had a heated discussion with his manager on the touchline.

The City boss could be heard screaming at the striker as he took his place on the bench but played down the altercation after the 2-2 draw claiming it was just emotion.

"He believes that I was upset with him for the goal we conceded," Guardiola said. "But that was a corner, it was a one vs one movement.

"He thought I was upset with him, I am animated but I was a player, I know what it’s like. We talked after and during, I love him a lot as a player."

City dropped their first points in the league with Erik Lamela and Moura cancelling out goals from Raheem Sterling and Sergio Aguero but Guardiola was full of praise for his side after the final whistle.

"One of the best games we have played," Guardiola said of his side's efforts at the Etihad on Saturday night. "We have played better but, the way we controlled right and left and created chances and chances. And Tottenham they want to press they could not do that and unfortunately the first time they crossed the half way line they scored a goal and the second one was a set piece.

"We play against Tottenham, one of the best in Europe and it was an incredible performance. Unfortunately  we cannot win. We lose two times against Tottenham because of VAR, last season it was offside and today it was hands. And that’s all."
