Pep Guardiola drops cryptic Man City transfer hint ahead of Liverpool Premier League title battle

Pep Guardiola has hinted Manchester City will enjoy a quiet end to the transfer window as Liverpool prepare to lock horns with the reigning Premier League champions once again.

Jurgen Klopp 's side missed out on a first league title since 1990 by a solitary point to City last season, before going on to lift the Champions League.

But despite their status as European champions, the Reds are insistent they won't spend big this summer with Sepp Van den Berg currently the only new arrival at Anfield.

Manchester City have been slightly more active, bringing in Rodri from Athletico Madrid for £62.8million with Angelino and Zack Steffen also signing from PSV Eindhoven and Columbus Crew respectively.

Harvey Elliott is expected to become Liverpool's second signing of the summer, while  Klopp revealed earlier this month he'd like to complete one further first team signing before the start of the season.

“I’m happy with the team, we are really happy”, admitted the 52-year-old. “We have to see if we find maybe one position, if we find something for it, but there’s no real pressure because it’s not about signing a player. We have solutions for all the situations.

“Do we have exactly the solution that everybody from outside would be 100 per cent happy? I don’t think so because people want to have world-class here, world-class here and the guy on the bench has to be world-class as well. That’s not so easy. But we are of course working on it.”

And now Guardiola has revealed he is expecting a similar close to the window at the Etihad.

"No, not many," he said when asked about potential new arrivals ahead of City's pre-season clash with Yokohama F. Marinos. "I like the faces that we have.

"Maybe but transfer market is so difficult and the team is good enough. Maybe zero, maybe one, maybe one and a half."
