Pep Guardiola delivers verdict on Mikel Arteta and Arsenal after Man City's defeat to Tottenham

Pep Guardiola has praised the job that former assistant Mikel Arteta is doing at Arsenal.

Arteta joined Guardiola's coaching team at the Etihad Stadium when he retired from playing in 2016, and helped City win two Premier League titles during his three-and-a-half seasons in Manchester.

The Spaniard rejoined the Gunners as head coach in December after Unai Emery was sacked, and has since presided over an improvement in performances and results in north London.

Speaking after City were beaten 2-0 by Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, Guardiola was asked whether his side miss Arteta's services and if he has spoken with his friend since Arsenal appointed the 37-year-old.

Burnley 0-0 Arsenal: Mikel Arteta press conference

Goals from debutant Steven Bergwijn and Son Heung-min sealed the three points for Jose Mourinho's side, after City were reduced to 10 men in the second half when Oleksandr Zinchenko was shown a second yellow card.

The result leaves City 22 points behind league leaders Liverpool, and all but ends their hopes of retaining the Premier League title they have won for the last two seasons.

But after the match, Guardiola was happy to pay tribute to Arteta when asked about his old assistant coach.

“I know he’s very happy there," Guardiola told reporters.

"Doing a great job. I’ve seen some of his games. I’m so happy for him.”

Arteta's Arsenal drew their fifth consecutive league game away from home, with the 0-0 draw against Burnley.
