Pep Guardiola delivers Kevin De Bruyne injury update ahead of Arsenal FA Cup semi-final

Pep Guardiola says Kevin De Bruyne should be fit to play in Manchester City's upcoming games, after being given an injury scare in the 5-0 win over Newcastle.

City cruised to a comfortable victory at the Etihad Stadium, thanks to goals from Gabriel Jesus, Riyad Mahrez, David Silva, Raheem Sterling and an own goal from Federico Fernandez.

With Liverpool now confirmed as Premier League champions, Guardiola's side are focusing on their remaining cup competitions, with a Champions League last-16 tie against Real Madrid still to play.

Last season's domestic treble winners also have a FA Cup semi-final against Arsenal on Saturday week.

Arsenal 1-1 Leicester: Mikel Arteta press conference

De Bruyne has been instrumental for City this season, and is on course to match Thierry Henry's record for the most assists in a Premier League season after setting up his 18th league goal of the campaign when teeing up Mahrez.

And Guardiola admitted that he was worried when De Bruyne went down towards the end of the game after a heavy challenge by Danny Rose.

But the City boss believes the midfielder should be fine ahead of the cup clash against Arsenal.

“I was trembling,” Guardiola told the official club website. “That was scary. But after the third goal he made two big runs and I thought OK he is fit.

“I haven’t spoken to him because of social distancing. We have two or three locker rooms.

"The doctor hasn’t said anything to me.”

He added: “This game is about winning, that’s all. We did it in the recent past. We are in a good position in the Premier League, scoring a lot of goals.

“That’s the way we want to play, for our people. Respecting the game of football. That’s it. And prepare well for Arsenal and the second leg for Madrid."
