Pep Guardiola confirms two Man City debutants will play against West Ham in China

Manchester City's club-record signing Rodri is set to make his debut against West Ham in the Premier League Asia Trophy in Nanjing on Wednesday afternoon.

The midfielder joined Pep Guardiola's side from Atletico Madrid earlier this summer for a club-record £62.8m, eclipsing the £60m he shelled out on Riyad Mahrez from Leicester.

Rodi and another debutant in Angelino are going to feature against the Hammers, with the latter re-joining the club from PSV Eindhoven after City triggered his buyback clause.

"He’s (Rodri) a young player who is going to be important for the next five or six years" said Guardiola to the club's official website.

"The first ten days have been really good, he will play his first game tomorrow.

City only arrived in China on Tuesday after a whole host of issues with their plane being grounded in Manchester thanks to an administrative error meaning it wasn't allowed to fly in Chinese airspace.

After their flight was twice cancelled, they eventually took off on Monday afternoon, arriving in China early on Tuesday morning at their base in Shanghai before making their way to Nanjing for the game.

West Ham's players have been in the country since Sunday at their base at the Shangri-La Hotel in Nanjing.

Before the City debutants take to the field against the Hammers, Newcastle and Wolves will face off at the Nanjing Olympic Centre, with the winner going through to the final to face either City or West Ham in Shanghai on Saturday.
