Pep Guardiola confirms Man City goalkeeper Ederson is a doubt for Liverpool FC fixture

Pep Guardiola confirmed that Ederson is a doubt to face Liverpool.

The Manchester City goalkeeper looked to have had an ordinary half as his team cruised to a 1-0 lead. But the sight of Claudio Bravo warming up at half-time signalled something was up and sparked an extraordinary second half that saw the ten-man Blues end with Kyle Walker in goal as they clung to a 1-1 draw.

City's coach does not think that it is a significant injury for his No.1 but tests no Thursday will indicate whether he will recover in time for the weekend for the crunch Premier League game against table-topping Liverpool at Anfield.

"I don't know right now," said Guardiola. "It's a muscular [thigh] problem. It was not big but to avoid risk. He didn't feel comfortable in the last minutes and that's why we decided to make a substitution.

"He's strong. We're going to try with him but we are not going to take a risk. We will see tomorrow."

Ederson has not missed a game for City through injury since joining the club in 2017. He lined up in goal for a Champions League game at Feyenoord in his first season days after being stretched off against Liverpool when Sadio Mane's boot left his face requiring stitches.

Leroy Sane, David Silva, Aleks Zinchenko, Rodri and Aymeric Laporte are also injured, although Spanish midfielder Rodri did take part in some training on Tuesday before the squad flew out for the Champions League game.
