Pep Guardiola confirms Fernandinho blow and gives Man City injury update

Pep Guardiola expects to be without Fernandinho for four to six weeks in another injury setback for Manchester City.

Already without four first-team players in Aymeric Laporte, Benjamin Mendy, Gabriel Jesus and Kevin De Bruyne, the Blues saw Nathan Ake pull out on the morning of the game with a niggle to his groin. Fernandinho came on as a late substitute for Rodri in the 3-1 win over Porto but was forced off before the end as he could not continue.

Guardiola confirmed after the game that the early signs do not look good for the veteran Brazilian and expects him to be missing for some time. De Bruyne and Laporte are expected to resume training on Thursday after their recent absences but face battles to be fit for the Saturday lunchtime clash with West Ham in the Premier League.

"I think Kevin and Laporte start training tomorrow but I don't know how they will be tomorrow and the next days so we will see," said Guardiola.

"Unfortunately people came back and now we have lost another but it is really important to come back. In three days we go to London and after we travel to France to play against Marseille and then Sheffield three days after. The schedules are so demanding and we need all the players.

"It's bad news [on Fernandinho]. It's in his leg I think he will be out for four to six weeks. it is a big blow for us because we need people there."
