Pep Guardiola confirms extent of injury to Man City star Kevin De Bruyne

Kevin De Bruyne should be back to play for Manchester City after the international break if he does not make the squad against Wolves.

The star midfielder missed his first game of the campaign through injury on Tuesday and there is concern around the player after he saw much of last season ruined by problems.

Pep Guardiola suggested it will be touch-and-go to see if the player can overcome a groin injury in time for the Premier League match on Sunday, but reassured that it is not a major problem.

"It is not serious but he couldn't play today. We'll see for Sunday - right now I don't know. We're going to see if we take a risk. I think he will be fit after the international break."

City made do without De Bruyne for much of last season and showed again that they are blessed with many excellent midfielders in the squad to control the game.

David Silva captained the team, Rodri produced the killer ball for the first goal, Phil Foden came off the bench to score the second goal while the manager was full of praise after the game for Ilkay Gundogan.

"You cannot believe how good he is," he said.

"He is an exceptional player with the work ethic. I miss him a lot our first year here when he had an ACL was out for more than six months. He's one of the best signings our club has done in our history."
