Pep Guardiola confirms double Manchester City injury boost ahead of West Ham visit

Pep Guardiola has delivered the latest Manchester City injury news ahead of Sunday's Premier League clash against West Ham United.

The reigning champions go into the game trailing run away leaders Liverpool by a massive 22 points.

As a result, the most realistic task for Guardiola's side between now and the end of the season is to fend off competition from Leicester City in the race to finish as runners-up.

Premier League chief assesses VAR impact

Injuries are one reason for City's surprise struggles in the league this season.

Aymeric Laporte has missed a large chunk of the campaign, while Leroy Sane - who is back in light training - hasn't featured since the Community Shield win over Liverpool back in August.

Therefore, Guardiola could do with some welcome injury news.

And that's exactly what he's provided ahead of the Hammers' visit to the Etihad Stadium.

When asked in his pre-match press conference if defenders John Stones and Benjamin Mendy are still injured, the Spaniard was able to confirm a double injury boost.

"No, they're both training," he said, as per the Manchester Evening News.

Mendy could replace the suspended Oleksandr Zinchenko at left-back in what would be the France international's 12th Premier League appearance of the season.

Meanwhile, Stones is battling Nicolas Otamendi for a starting berth in central defence.

One player who will miss the game is England international Raheem Sterling.

The winger suffered a hamstring injury during last week's 2-0 defeat by Tottenham Hotspur and Guardiola is resigned to losing his key player for weeks.

"It's a hamstring injury, we will see," he added. "It takes weeks, but I don’t know right now. "It's a problem being without him, but we were without Gundo in the first season, Laporte this season, it is what it is."
