Pep Guardiola 'confident' Man City will win CAS appeal over Champions League ban

Pep Guardiola says he has studied Manchester City's defence against their two-year Champions League ban and is convinced they will be cleared of all charges.

The club will find out at 9.30am on Monday whether their appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has been successful.

And Guardiola insists City will be exonerated, saying: “It was an issue from a long time ago.

"Maybe 90 per cent of the people who are on the pitch or the backroom staff were not there. But we are going to see and respect the decisions.

“I try to be involved in knowing exactly what happened and I am fully confident about what the club has done and it will allow us to play in the Champions League next season because we won it on the pitch during the season.”

City were handed a two-year ban and €30million fine for “serious breaches” of Financial Fair Play by Uefa.

They laid out their appeal to the CAS during a three-day hearing in June.

Guardiola added: “I’m confident. That’s all I can say.

"I don’t know anything about this – [it's] just a feeling because we know exactly what the club has done and that will allow us to play in the Champions League next season, to be recognised by everyone that nothing wrong happened.”
