As usual there are a host of matches that supporters' eyes are first drawn to when the announcement of fixtures is made - not least the games against the likes of United, Everton and Manchester City.
However, with the first half of the campaign being condensed due to the winter break that is scheduled during the Qatar World Cup period, which gets underway on November 21, there a handful of other domestic matches that could take on greater importance in the battle for the title, which last season was won by City.
That's because this season's Champions League group stage, which gets underway in the first week of September, will be played over three back-to-back game weeks (September 6-7, September 13-14, October 4-5, October 11-12, October 25-26, November 1-2). That means the group stage, this season, will completed at the earlier time of the first week of November.
Here we look at the Premier League matches that will sandwich Liverpool's and City's Champions League group-stage encounters.
And while Pep Guardiola might have been angry last season, looking at the matches, perhaps that won't be the case this season, although neither team have been blessed with good fortune...
Matchday 1 - September 6/7
The Reds' first Champions League fixture since their defeat to Real Madrid in last month's final will take place just days after a visit to Merseyside rivals Everton, which is currently penned in for September 3.
And after fulfilling their Champions League commitments on the Tuesday or Wednesday of the following week, Jurgen Klopp's side will host Wolves on September 10 .
Meanwhile, City will see their first Champions League group game sandwiched between a visit to Aston Villa on September 3 and a home fixture against Tottenham Hotspur on September 10 .
Matchday 2 - September 13/14
After the home clash with Wolves, the following midweek will see the Reds back in Champions League action, before travelling to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on September 17.
City, meanwhile, will face a trip to Wolves on September 17 following their second group-stage fixture.
Matchday 3 - October 4/5
After a two-week break from Champions League action, the Reds will continue their quest to make the final in Istanbul next May by playing their third match of a relentless group-stage fixture list.
The visit of Brighton to Anfield on October 1 will come just days before that fixture. After it, Liverpool will travel to the Emirates to take on Arsenal, which is scheduled for October 8 .
City will play their biggest rivals Manchester United on October 1 and Southampton on October 8 , either side of matchday three in the Champions League. Not easy, either, but both games will take place at the Etihad.
Matchday 4 - October 11/12
It get no easier for the Reds the following week. Their fourth Champions League group-stage clash will come after that trip to Arsenal - and just before the visit of Guardiola's City to Anfield on October 15 .
The heavyweight content will undoubtedly have some say in where the Premier League title ends up.
Matchday 5 - October 25/26
Liverpool's Premier League games surrounding their penultimate Champions League group stage fixture are significantly easier than the ones they were handed on matchday four.
The Reds face new boys Nottingham Forest at the City Ground, in a repeat of last season's FA Cup quarter-final, on October 22 before hosting Leeds United on October 29 .
For City, this round of European fixtures will be paired with a visit of Brighton to the Etihad on October 22 before a trip to Leicester City on October 29 .
Matchday 6 - November 1/2
The final round of Champions League fixtures before the Qatar World Cup sees the Reds jump straight in from their clash against Jesse Marsch's Leeds into their final group stage fixture, before making the trip to Tottenham for what will be their 15th game of the Premier League season.
After completing their Champions League commitments, City will host Fulham on November 5.
