Pep Guardiola believes Liverpool FC's loss to Barcelona won't affect them in the Premier League

Man City manager Pep Guardiola does not believe that Liverpool's defeat in the Champions League semi-final first leg will affect them in the Premier League title race.

Jurgen Klopp's side traveled to the Camp Nou on Wednesday to face Barcelona, where they put in an excellent performance but were eventually undone by the sheer brilliance of Lionel Messi.

Former Liverpool hero Luis Suarez had put Barca ahead early on, but Liverpool were dangerous and had ample chances to bag an equaliser.

Yet they didn't take them and when Messi struck twice in seven minutes, the second a sensational free-kick, they condemned Liverpool to a 3-0 defeat and on the edge of elimination.

Guardiola was in attendance in Catalonia and he doesn't believe the defeat will have any bearing on the title race.

Man City manager Pep Guardiola has no doubts about Newcastle and Leicester

"I don’t think so," the Blues boss said when asked if he thought the loss would affect Liverpool.

"The game was incredibly good. Both sides were incredible. Liverpool were outstanding, I enjoyed watching it a lot."

City and Liverpool remain neck and neck in the battle for the title, with City currently holding a slender one-point lead.

However, Liverpool have the opportunity to retake the advantage when they travel to Newcastle on Saturday evening and a victory would pile the pressure on City ahead of their game against Leicester on Monday night.

Guardiola expects Liverpool to bounce back from the disappointment in mid-week at St. James' Park.

He said: "They fought a lot for this season and I think of course Newcastle is not easy but they will be well prepared."
