Pep Guardiola backs Liverpool to shatter Man City's glut of Premier League records

Pep Guardiola reckons relentless Liverpool can shatter Manchester City's glut of Premier League records this season.

Liverpool are on target to beat City's records for most points, most wins, biggest points total winning margin, most consecutive victories, earliest title win and most away victories.

Jurgen Klopp's runaway league leaders need 11 wins and a draw from their remaining 15 games to beat City's record 100-point return, set in the 2017-18 season.

The Merseyside club are currently on a run of 14 straight Premier League wins this season, just four short of City's record, with Guardiola convinced his own side's records are under threat.

“It can happen, the records are always there to be broken,” said Guardiola.

“So we broke it when someone thought it couldn’t be broken before.

“Sooner or later it will happen, either this season or in the future, history speaks clearly about that.

“It’s not easy to beat them at the moment, they’ve found a way to win games.”

City, who host Fulham today in the FA Cup, head into a 13-day mid-season break after facing West Ham on February 9.

But Guardiola has resisted the temptation to take his squad abroad for a warm-weather training camp, preferring for the players to spend time with their families.

“We’ll have a few days off and then train again,” said Guardiola. “Three, four days off and then we’ll train for Leicester and Arsenal.

“I want guys to stay with families. In this case I decide to be here.”
