It has been an entertaining encounter at the Etihad Stadium, with two of the big six taking on one another on the second Premier League weekend of the season.
Manchester City and Tottenham are both expected to be up towards the top of the table come the reckoning next May, with City gunning for a third consecutive Premier League title.
And they took the lead against Spurs through a fabulous Raheem Sterling goal.
A below-par Spurs hit back when Erik Lamela fired past an out of position Ederson, but City restored their lead through Sergio Aguero.
After the break, City continued to pepper the Spurs goal but just 19 seconds after coming on as a second half substitute, Lucas Moura levelled the scores once more.
And that second goal might have been the reason for what happened in the 66th minute.
Aguero was replaced by Gabriel Jesus at that time and as he walked over the touchline, manager Pep Guardiola appeared to want a word with his striker.
Aguero was not in the mood for talking though, and had a few words back to his manager, before then walking off to take his place on the bench.
The slanging match continued, although it appeared to be one-sided, with Guardiola the one doing all the talking as he tried to get his point across to the Argentinian, who may or mat not have been expeced to pick up Moura from the corner from which Spurs equalised a second time.
The whole incident was picked up on Sky Sports, with commentator Martin Tyler and Gary Neville discussing what happened and why.
And from a corner later in the match, Jesus was seen picking up Moura, suggesting that is exactly what Guardiola was no impressed with.
