Pep Guardiola and Raheem Sterling asked about Hong Kong protests ahead of Man City game

Pep Guardiola has played down concerns over safety issues in Hong Kong ahead of Manchester City's game against Kitchee SC on Wednesday night.

The squad arrived in Hong Kong on Sunday as political unrest boiled over into violent scenes in the centre of the city.

Local reports claimed there will be further protests at the game at the Hong Kong Stadium on Wednesday night, although sources at Kitchee who spoke to MEN Sport are not concerned. And neither is Guardiola.

The City boss was asked about the political situation ahead of City's third game of their pre-season tour of Asia.

"As a human being you don't like to watch it," Guardiola said. "But always as a society you have to accept the protest and I am pretty sure the government will be in agreement about no violence and they are going to solve the problem.

"It was an incredible experience being in China to play football, we want to enjoy it with Kitchee fans tomorrow and meanwhile the government here with the people are going to find a solution to move forward and that's all.

"We have no concerns at all, we feel safe and i'm pretty sure the people will take an agreement. We have to sit and talk on both sides and we are going to solve the problem."

Raheem Sterling echoed the thoughts of his manager as he was asked if the political unrest had had an impact on the players.

"It has no impact, we're aware of the situation but we are getting on with training," Sterling said. "We have to get ready and get fit so we are not reading too much into it."
