A host of Premier League clubs had their eyes firmly fixed on UEFA's headquarters in Switzerland on Monday with draws for three European competitions taking place
Deciding the Champions League Round of 16 and the Europa League and Europa Conference League knockout round play-off ties, Tottenham were one of six English clubs who discovered their fate.
Although it's not exactly clear yet if Spurs will be involved in the knockout phase of UEFA's third club competition due to the postponement of their final group game vs Rennes, they now know that they will take on Rapid Wien if the final outcome works in their favour and they go through instead of Vitesse.
Man City were also another Premier League team who discovered their next European opponents once the Champions League resumes again in February.
Firstly drawn away against Spanish side Villarreal before a "technical problem" meant UEFA had to do a redraw, the Premier League champions will now come up against Sporting CP.
Perhaps a decent draw for City given they could have faced the likes of Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid, it will still be a tough tie as Sporting pipped Borussia Dortmund to second in their group and they are also currently level on points with Porto at the top of the Primeira Liga table.
The first leg of their tie at the Estadio Jose Alvalade on Tuesday, February 15 actually comes four days before Tottenham travel to the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League.
A Tuesday game will certainly be welcomed by Pep Guardiola and his team, thus giving them an extra day to train compared to if they played on the Wednesday night.
While Saturday, February 19 is a provisional date for the Tottenham match at present as the TV picks for February haven't been confirmed yet, the game is likely to be moved for broadcasting purposes - and it could potentially be the following day.
Tottenham have played the vast majority of their league games on a Sunday this season due to their Thursday European commitments and it could well turn out to be another Sunday fixture depending on UEFA's final call over the postponed Rennes game.
If that is indeed the case and Spurs do take on Rapid Wien in the Europa Conference League knockout play-off round, Antonio Conte's team will have limited time to prepare for the Man City encounter as they will arrive back in the capital in the early hours of Friday morning whereas the champions will have an extra two days to fine-tune their plans.
However, a final decision in Rennes' favour and Spurs will have a full week to prepare for their trip to Manchester unless that week is then used to fit in one of their postponed Premier League matches against either Burnley or Brighton & Hove Albion.
Losing 3-0 at the Etihad Stadium last February when Jose Mourinho was in charge, Spurs will be hoping for better luck 12 months on under Conte regardless of whether City have a couple of extra days to prepare or not.
Premier League games against Southampton, Wolves and Leeds are also on the agenda for Tottenham in February.
