Pep Guardiola all smiles as Manchester City's Champions League ban lifted on appeal

Pep Guardiola was all smiles as Manchester City's Champions League ban was overturned on Monday morning.

City were in February handed a two-year ban from Uefa competitions, along with a €30 million fine, for breaching Financial Fair Play regulations.

However, on Monday, the Court of Arbiration for Sport overturned the ban and reduced the fine to €10m.

It brings to an end their long-running battle with European football’s governing body and removes the cloud that has hung over them since the publication of supposed leaked emails and documents in 2018.

In their ruling CAS said the “award emphasised that most of the alleged breaches reported by the Adjudicatory Chamber of the CFCB were either not established or time-barred.”

Pep Guardiola said in the days leading up to Monday's announcement that he was confident CAS would lift the ban, and was visibly happy in an Instagram post shorting after confirmation of their successful appeal.

Manuel Estiarte, a member of Guardiola's technical team, posted, then deleted, the above photo on Instagram.
