Pep Guardiola has admitted he will not stand in the way of Leroy Sane leaving Manchester City if the attacker decides he does not want to stay.
Bayern Munich are interested in signing the Germany international and the wideman has yet to agree terms of a new City contract which is currently on the table.
City remain confident they can keep the player but Bayern Munich are pushing hard to tempt him away and while Guardiola said recently he was hopeful of a resolution he admitted he will not stand in the way of him leaving.
"I said two or three times we want him and we want him to stay," Guardiola said in his post-match press conference as City beat Hong Kong side Kitchee 6-1. "He has an offer waiting to talk with his agents to extend the contract. So it's not in our hands he has to decide. If he wants and there is an agreement then it's good but if he wants to leave he can do it , but we will be sad, hopefully he stays."
In an interview last week Guardiola likened the situation with Sane to that of Jadon Sancho who left the club for Borussia Dortmund.
"I want him," said the manager.
"He has special qualities and we play wingers and we need specific wingers. But it is his decision, it’s the same as what happened with Sancho.
"We want him, we are giving everything, but in the end, if he doesn’t want, what can you do? Nothing. We know each other, we have tried, we will see what happens."
City ran out 6-1 winners in their third pre-season game and will now travel to Tokyo for their final pre-season tour game.
