Pep Guardiola admits he is trying 'not to think' about Liverpool after Wolves beat Man City

Man City boss Pep Guardiola has given his reaction after his side's 2-0 home loss to Wolves this afternoon.

City slipped to a shock defeat to hand Liverpool a significant early boost in the Premier League title race.

After beating Leicester 2-1 at Anfield yesterday, the Reds now head into the international break with a perfect start and an eight-point lead over Guardiola's men.

Wolves stunned City today with a second-half brace from Adama Traore securing a big away win.

In his post-match press conference, the City manager said: "It was a bad day. That sometimes happens.

"We started quite well and then we conceded two situations with two loose balls in our build-up - we got a little bit nervous.

"That sometimes happens (players getting nervous). There’s a lot of games to go.

"We lost to a good team. They’re physical and strong in the air and fast on the counter attack and that's why."

Giving his take on how the title race now stands, Guardiola said: "It is a lot of points [difference].

"They [Liverpool] don’t drop points for many reasons.

"But it is better not to think about that. It is better to think about what is next."

He added: "Today was the day we were not on our level. The previous games were were good.

"The distance is big, Liverpool have not dropped points. Now is the time to come back.

"The results will dictate the situation but we are in October and there’s a long way to go."

And Guardiola backed his players to respond, saying: "I know these guys, they can still do it.

"It was a bad day, a bad game. Credit to the opponent - what’s happened has happened.

"Most teams that have won in the past don’t win the year after. Of course, we want to be close."

Manchester United are next up for the Reds, at Old Trafford on Sunday 20th October.

And after Champions League action away to Genk, Liverpool then take on Spurs at Anfield as they look to carry on their title charge.
