Pep Guardiola admits he has still not forgotten his uncomfortable night at St James' Park last season

Pep Guardiola has not forgotten his night at St James’ Park last season.

Manchester City lost for the first time in the Premier League since January last weekend as Norwich earned a brilliant 3-2 win. And at his press conference this week, Guardiola was asked whether he was upset about the Canaries defeat.

The Citizens chief said he wasn’t – and compared it to the burning anger he felt after his team were toppled at St James’ Park in that incredible night at the turn of the year.

Newcastle, remember, went behind within seconds before Salomon Rondon and then Matt Ritchie earned the team their best victory of the campaign.

Guardiola said: “We review the game normally I speak with my staff and listen to their opinion. That’s important for me listen to what they say because they help me to get a better solution and after watching the game against Norwich I was not upset with the way we played.

“After watching the game against Norwich, I was not really upset with the way we played. I was upset after Newcastle [last season] – after 1-0 after one minute we forgot to play. Against Norwich we shot more than 15 times and we could have one. In Newcastle I don’t have that feeling after one minute.”

“I haven’t [lost] many times. We have lots of success when we lose I’m not depressed I say that’s going to happen. 99 points still to play.”
