Pep Clotet makes a bold statement about former club Leeds United

Birmingham City boss Pep Clotet has backed his former club Leeds United to finish towards the top of the table.

The Spanish coach has been in charge of the club since Garry Monk was sacked in the summer, and has had a mixed record so far.

The Blues won their opening game of the Championship season with a hard-fought 1-0 win away at Brentford, before getting knocked out of the Carabao Cup with a 3-0 defeat to League One Portsmouth, before drawing 1-1 with Bristol City last weekend.

Speaking before Saturday's trip to Nottingham Forest, Clotet was asked who he considers as contenders for promotion.

“That’s one thing that the Championship always is, competitive," Clotet told Birmingham Live.

"We never know, I do think West Brom[wich Albion] will finish in the play-offs and I do think Leeds will finish around there as well.

“I do think Bristol [City] and Brentford will be there as well, this is just what I think. The Championship always proves you wrong, so it is better not to think much and take a mentality like we are doing here and take it game by game."
