Pep Clotet leaves Birmingham City just hours after crushing Swansea City loss

Pep Clotet has left Birmingham City by mutual consent following the Blues' 3-1 loss to Swansea City.

Birmingham are on a run of 11 matches in all competitions without a win, with their defeat to Steve Cooper's side leaving them in 17th place in the Championship, just four points above the relegation zone with four matches remaining.

Former Swansea assistant Clotet had been due to leave the club at the end of the current campaign.

However, just hours after his side were beaten by Swansea, the club confirmed they had parted ways with the Spaniard with immediate effect.

A club statement read: "Pep Clotet has this evening left his position as head coach.

"He was due to step down at the season’s end but it was mutually agreed that he should relinquish the role immediately.

"The board would like to place on record its sincere thanks to Pep for his efforts during the past two years.

"We will be making no further comment at this time."

Lukas Jutkiewicz put the Blues ahead early on against Swansea, although the visitors earned all three points thanks to goals from Rhian Brewster, Ben Cabango and Jay Fulton.

Victory lifted the Swans up to seventh place, with Cooper's men now just one point off the play-off places.
