People will be able to book coronavirus vaccination appointments online

A new booking system is being set up so people can book their coronavirus jabs online.

Welsh Government has released a strategy detailing where it is with vaccinating people in Wales and its plans for the future. This includes plans for any booster jabs that could be needed and for vaccinating school children, if that decision is taken.

The document said the current vaccine booking system has proved "hugely successful in maintaining the pace of our vaccination programme".

Welsh Government said it plans to launch a new online booking system which will mean people can amend their appointment if necessary and book their own vaccine appointments.

The work is still in a development phase but would be online for autumn to schedule booster appointments, if they are required.

A pilot scheme for online booking was trialled in Swansea.

All over-18s will be offered a coronavirus vaccine by the start of next week (beginning June 14) and the Welsh Government has said Wales was expected to reach 75% take-up for first jabs across all priority groups and age groups by mid-June, which the First Minister said was six weeks ahead of schedule.

Figures published on Monday, June 7 show 2.18m people, or 86% of the adult population, have had a first dose of a vaccine and almost 1.25m people have had a second. They show 58% of 18-19-year-olds in Wales have received their first vaccine and 45% of adults in Wales are fully vaccinated. Take-up is higher than 90% for first doses in all people over 60; in healthcare workers; care home residents and staff and all those who are extremely clinically vulnerable.
