People who use emojis in their text messages have more sex, study claims

Emoji may be the fastest growing language in the world, but did you know that it's also the language of love?

A new study has found a link between people's use of emojis and their ability to land dates and have sex.

Researchers at The Kinsey Institute surveyed over 5,000 participants on their use of emojis and their romantic and sexual experiences over the past year.

They found that frequent emoji users were more likely to have kissed on dates, had sex or entered into a relationship with their date.

"Our findings suggest that emoji use with potential partners is associated with maintaining connection beyond the first date, and more romantic and sexual interactions over the previous year," the report states.

"This research provides evidence that emojis convey important affective information to potential partners, and are potentially associated with more successful intimate connection."

The researchers added that emojis allows daters to "communicate important affective information" to potential partners, which helps them to establish an "intimate connection".

This, in turn, leads to romantic and sexual opportunities.

The study didn't explore which emojis were most frequently used by participants, or which were most effective in wooing a partner.

"We cannot fully know which emojis are most effective at helping to form connections between people," the researchers wrote.

However, we'd advise steering clear of the aubergine emoji before a first date.
